Floriculture class prepares for poinsettia sale

Greenhouse was cleaned removing any old or green vegetation

to help reduce the incidence of disease or insects.

Compacted potting soil was rehydrated and placed into six inch pots.

Each filled pot was evenly spaced on benches through out the greenhouse.

This year ten different varieties of poinsettias will be grown.

Labels were made to help identify each of the 1500 poinsettias.

Poinsettia rootings arrived and were transplanted into each of the six inch pots.

To help maintain healthy plants, a fungicide was applied to the soil of each plant.

A common horticulture practice is to pinch or remove the upper portion of a plant.

This  practice results in the formation of more stems and leaves making the plant look fuller and more appealing.
